The Outlaw books start with Longhorns and Outlaws —
which is the story of Lucas Vogel, who has just lost his family
in the 1900 Galveston Hurricane. Lucas is new to the west, new to horses, new to pretty much everything to do with cowboys. Outlaws, however, are another story, because Lucas has been a Pinkerton-agent-in-training learning everything he can about outlaws, since he arrived in Texas three years ago. The
Outlaw books are Lucas's adventures in the West —
in both Canada and the United States, as Lucas has
the good, or perhaps bad, luck to keep having
run-ins with outlaws.
